BE MY VALENTINE POLO – RECAP by fixiegc

The sun was turned up to 11 for the be my valentine polo tournament held Sunday past. It was a pretty good mix of experienced players to new players in a two on two format. Since nationals is almost upon us it was really good to have a casual fun day before people start putting there serious full face helmets and reading up on the rules and following them word for word before nationals in Perth.

A few chose to dress up and a few even choose to wear mankinis which added to the fun of the day. The tournament was a swiss style playing system so you had a good chance in getting a break from the sun. It finally whittled down to the finals between Dom and Jamie Vs Simon and Ben. These two teams were clearly the standout teams and the cooling temperatures made it for a hot and heavy final.

Love was a battlefield and Dom and Jamie jumped ontop and took out the game. A big thanks goes to Ali for putting together a great day, all of the helpers and all of the Brisbane polo players for coming out and playing polo.

Because Nate and I were so awesome we lost every game and won D.F.L.

Summer of Fixty-9 – RECAP by fixiegc

We couldn’t of asked for better weather for this years Summer of Fixty Nine, after being delayed once before, 6:30 on the dot 16 riders left Surfers Paradise to complete 8 photo-based checkpoints ranging from Southport to Broadbeach.

some confused faces, some quiet, and some quietly confident.

In first place we had Callum closely followed by the Duff man they completed all 8 checkpoints in under 50mins. It wasn’t long before Jordy Boy and some of the other Brisbane riders came flying in to submit their manifest’s. Rupert put it all on the line upon seeing the finish line to crash right in front of us putting it down speedway style. Red also took on this speedy approach to the finish point and almost smashed into a kid’s playground on his new cervelo.

From there on a consistent trickle of riders came in to post-there manifest until we had everyone bar two. Those two were Rob and Scott, Scott always has the best of luck and he has been really working hard on becoming a D.F.L specialist he had managed to blow out his tyres and his spares. Rob felt sympathetic and helped Scott make the long walk back from Southport to Broadbeach (assisted by a support vehicle).

Rupert just seconds after putting it down.

The results.
First place Callum, Second was the Duff man and Jordy Boy took out third. Best new rider was Tom. Best out of towner rider (not on the virtual podium) was Red. And Dead Fucking last was Scott. Scott again adding to his brilliant cyclosport averages.

The badass prize was given to Rupert for putting it all on the line. We also had a few stealth prizes that were donated from Ryan from Aloha fixed.

Prizes and ending the night in a skid comp, won by red.

The fourth instalment of the summer of fixty nine yet again raised the bar for alleycats on the coast. Lets hope the fifth SOF9 is better and better.

I would like to thank Marty for his help towards the organization of the event. And all of the major sponsors, Mike’s Bikes, Sneak & Destroy, GEAR, BO Gear, Never stop Pedalling. And also Ryan from Aloha fixed.

Thank you to all of the riders and people who just came to check it out.
